Set in 22 acres of woodlands, Houstoun House offers respite from big city life. Edinburgh may be 20 minutes away, but in the grounds of this country house hotel, all is quiet. 70 striking rooms combine luxury with comfort, the pick of which is the feature bedroom housed in the tower. Centuries earlier, in a different life, this historic building was visited by Mary Queen of Scots; today it’s more likely to be frequented by business travelers and tourists, but its glamour is still intact. No country house hotel would be complete without a restaurant to match; Jeremy Wares at Houstoun House creates seasonal Scottish cuisine of the highest caliber, as evinced by its two AA Rosettes. Every room has a purpose at Houstoun House, including the cellar which has been converted into the Vaulted Bar, where restoring brews are served in a cosy setting, ranging from afternoon tea to champagne and cocktails. The building may hark back to the 16th century but the facilities are from the 21st: the Vital Health and Well-being Club features an 18-metre pool, gym, treatment rooms, sauna and outdoor tennis court.

Spent 4 days at houstoun house. Had a fantastic few days. Great food and service. Fantastic big room with super comfortable beds. Staff were great in particular frank who arranged the lunch service. Always smiling and making sure everyone was catered for.
My partner and I came for Hogmany. What a fantastic evening. The rooms are beautiful and clean. And very comfortable. The staff are amazing and so helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The New Years evening started with a glass of champagne and canapes. The was a piper welcoming you to the reception. The 5 course meal was amazing and afterwards there was ceilidh dancing. You were talked through each dance to join in and after the new year was piped in there was a disco until the early hours. Great fun.
